You can purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies exempt from tax during the 2023 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. The sales tax holiday begins Saturday, May 27 and extends through Friday, June 9. A second exemption period will begin Saturday, August 26 and extend through Friday, September 8

Here are some of our recommended "must-haves" for your hurricane supply kit:

  • 3-day supply (minimum) of food and water, consisting of non-perishable items and 1 gallon of water per person per day
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
  • Flashlight
  • First-aid kit and medications
  • Whistle to signal for help 
  • Extra Cash
  • Cell Phone Chargers
  • Dust masks
  • Plastic sheeting & duct tape
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Manual can opener for food
  • Extra Batteries
