You can purchase qualifying disaster preparedness supplies exempt from tax during the 2024 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. The sales tax holiday begins Saturday, June 1 and extends through Friday, June 14. A second exemption period will begin Saturday, August 24 and extend through Friday, September 6.

Here are some of our recommended "must-haves" for your hurricane supply kit:

• 3-day supply (minimum) of food and water, consisting of non-perishable items and 1 gallon of water per person per day
• Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
• Flashlight
• First-aid kit and medications
• Whistle to signal for help 
• Extra Cash
• Cell Phone Chargers
• Dust masks
• Plastic sheeting & duct tape
• Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation
• Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
• Manual can opener for food
• Extra Batteries
